Proyecto RuCSC: Targeting cancer stem cells to overcome resistance and relapse
Lara Villarino Palmaz
We have identified chemical compounds that are able to specifically target mitochondrial respiration in cancer stem cells (CSCs), and therefore could avoid CSC-mediated treatment resistance and relapse.
Results in pancreatic CSCs and in pre-clinical patient-derived models demonstrate potent anti-cancer activity. In vivo studies suggest low secondary associated toxicity. With the support of CaixaResearch, we will validate the technology in pre-clinical models of different CSC-driven tumors.
Production of biosurfactants from maize washing liquors and potential uses at the industrial level
Xanel Vecino Bello
Different biosurfactant extracts can be obtained from a secondary raw material such as maize wash liquors, fermented spontaneously, at a competitive cost in the market. Depending on the extraction method applied, biosurfactant extracts of different nature are produced, with potential uses in several industrial sectors, including cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Both the extraction methods of these extracts and their uses are protected under several patents.
Implementation of Plasmonic Contact Lenses as Platforms for Tear Biomarker Sampling and Analysis.
Moisés Pérez Lorenzo, TeamNanoTech (CINBIO)
In recent years, tear analysis has become a highly valuable asset in clinical research, given its usefulness in identifying and quantifying biomarkers for a wide range of diseases. This project aims to improve traditional analytical technologies in this field by implementing an innovative detection platform consisting of the incorporation of plasmonic nanoassemblies in contact lenses.
